Simon's First Halloween.

11.11.2015

Halloween was simple and easy and as cute as can be. I found these authentic Austrian-made lederhosen and surprised Marcus with them one day. Since Marcus served his mission for our church in Germany and Austria, he about died when he saw Simon in them the first time. But who am I kidding, I about died too! Chubby baby + lederhosen...i can not!

I decided it was fitting that I be his milkmaid, since that is truly what I am at this stage in life, and Marcus had a traditional Trachten suit to match, so we were a complete Bavarian Family. Poppy wasn't with us during pics, but she didn't need a costume, since MinPins are a German-breed already!

We stopped by and "trick or treated" Grand-Mary and Boss and took some photos before the sun went down and then headed over to Andrew and Reachel's house to see cousin's in their costumes and eat Reachel's delicious vegetarian chili and my dessert cornbread (HAVE YOU MADE IT YET?).

Now that Halloween is over, I know we still have Thanksgiving, which I'm looking forward to, but for some reason I can't get Christmas off my mind! I feel like it's been YEARS since I've been really excited for Christmas, but something about having a kid in the mix is completely changing my attitude about it! Can't wait to start decoration and celebrating!

this morning i woke up to a happy email from an insta friend and it took me straight down the path to funky town...the galaxy shirt and a witchy hat only added to my funky feeling so I threw a dance party for one (poppy thought i had surely lost my mind) and after much hair swishing, i now have a headache. but i'm happy and i think it was a great way to start off my day. so, i have no regrets.

if you know who i am by the first picture alone, you win at life.
“Ann has told me repeatedly not to get a perm. But Ann’s not here. While Ann’s away, the mice get perms.”
do you know yet?
if you still don't know, then do yourself a favorite, get a netflix subscription (or a free trial) and watch all the episodes of Parks and Recreation. I think I watched an entire season one night that i had to pull an all-nighter for work. there was much snorting and crying involved. it was the happiest moment of my life.
or something.

Halloween's my favorite, you know.

i hope everyone picked up a proper stash of candy to pass out to the trick or treaters! always the procrastinator, i'm headed out to get mine right now!
what was your favorite candy to get as a kid?
personally, i loved when i'd get those fruity flavored tootsie rolls! guarded those babies with my life!

and if you're searching for something to scare you, how 'bout them roots...
you'd think with a hairdresser for a sister, i'd make it more of a priority to keep up on this hair of mine, but no, i get my hair done about 3 times a year, i just can't sit still for that long!

Halloween Dinner--it's a thing.

10.29.2012

This weekend reminded me why Halloween is my favorite.
As I mentioned in this post, the show Parenthood has inspired us siblings to do more 'hanging out' and to create more family traditions. We decided it would be fun to each pick a holiday and get together to celebrate!
Leisel chose Halloween, even though she's 7 1/2 months pregnant, and probably could have opted out{!}, but instead she threw the most beautiful halloween dinner on her back porch.
Each of the siblings brought something, and we dined on two different types of chili, delicious root beer and apple cider, corn bread (have you tried my recipe yet!?), and pumpkin bars.
We topped off the evening by noshing on kettlecorn and watching Tim Burton's Beetlejuice--which reminded us of why it was in the discount bin at Walmart...entertaining none the less--i say day, i say day, i say day-ay-ay-o...
What do you all do for halloween? Any Fall traditions?

jamie sent me a link to this halloween bat tutorial and i had to give it a try. i must say, i'm going to have a hard time taking them down, i like them so much.
my thrift store grandma was so pleased with me when i finally got some hooks to put away my trinkets. can't you just see the pride in her eyes?
with the weather cooling down to a bone chilling 79 degrees at night, we decided it was time for some German soul-food--home-made knoodle with a mushroom cream sauce.

Do you decorate for the holidays? What's your favorite?

Trick or Treat.

11.04.2011

Yes, yes, we all said goodbye to Halloween by now, but I'm just not quite ready to give it up, so here's one last hurrah and then I will put my holiday spirit into Thanksgiving (NOT CHRISTMAS).
I'm sorry I just can't go there yet.
Marcus and I spend the entire day down at the new house tearing things out and talking to contractors and during a much needed break we came across this gem:

The end is true comedy.
Now somebody pass the turkey...

This year we were the least prepared and had the most events to go to. This year Halloween extended into two weekends. This year we were too busy with work and the new house to give proper time and attention to our costumes. This year everything turned out just fine and we got creative at the last minute. This year we had a great Halloween experience.
My mother worked her hair magic and turned my hair-down-my-back into a short bob for my Grace Kelly persona.
Marcus got lucky and doned PJs to the party for his part as Jimmy Stewart from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.
Check out the original here
We went to such a great party over at the Brimley's.
Don't they look fantastic?
I don't know why, but whenever I see pomegranates I think of Where The Wild Things Are.
Do you agree?
My family had a Halloween Dinner for my nieces birthday and I didn't want to do my Grace Kelly hair again, so last minute I had the idea of being Stephanie Tanner (from Full House). That show was the greatest, was it not?
I tried to convince Marcus to be Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), but everything he put on looked too normal, so he happily pulled out his Trachten (bought while he was living in Germany) and went as Captain von Trapp (Sound of Music)

Fall Spread
My nephew wanted to be a "church guy" for Halloween! Haha he thought Marcus was that as well.

Perhaps the greatest costume in the history of Halloween was when my sister and her beau showed up as my PARENTS! Hahahah, I'm sure it's not nearly as funny since most of you don't know my parents, but the entire house was in tears when they walked in. My brother actually thought it WAS my mom. So, so good!
We then headed over to Lauren and Ted's house for a delicious second meal of stuffed pumpkin. I had never heard of it, but it sure was tasty (and beautiful). We were laughing the whole night, until we watched the scariest movie ever--When A Stranger Calls, then we weren't laughing anymore. YIKES!
I carved my pumpkin in tribute to our little stray porch kitties. Can't wait to light it up tonight!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Be Safe, Have Fun, and pray that the dead roach on our porch does NOT come back to life on this spooky Hallow's Eve!
