{Tunes on Tuesday} 80's Edition//Never Gonna Give You Up

8.18.2015

Oh my lanta, it's been far too long since we've seen a {Tunes on Tuesday} post. This was just too good not to share, my friends. Marcus and I heard this song on the radio last week and he asked if I had ever seen the amazing music video. I had not. He was in shock--usually I'm the one showing him treasure of this caliber...when we got home and he found it, we were both in happy tears on the ground and Simon thought we looked pretty funny there laughing so hard. It's just so much goodness. So so much. Please share with us all the best 80's music video you've ever seen in the comments, I'm sure there are plenty more for us all to enjoy.

Year Five: Wood

7.30.2015

This weekend we celebrated our five year anniversary by taking a trip up north. We love a good themed anniversary and year five is "wood"--wood based gifts and a trip to the woods!

It was our second road trip this month and we've been so lucky with how well Simon has been doing with them--maybe he knows that along with a long drive comes cooler weather and lots of time outdoors, his very favorite place to be! People are meant to spend time outdoors, having a baby has helped me realize this more and more. Being in Mesa during the summer makes me sort of depressed because it's dangerously hot outside (hence the reason we're heading on our third road trip this month tomorrow)! I love seeing this beautiful world through Simon's eyes.

One of his favorite things, (besides nursing ;)) has always been watching the leaves rustle in the in wind. An aspen forest is pretty much ideal for such things! He also couldn't stop giggling at Poppy as she dug her heart out. It was such a beautiful escape and we can't wait to go back up to Flagstaff in the Fall to see the leaves change.

Marcus made me this pretty little video of our afternoon. I'll treasure it always.

We absolutely love our ergobaby performance carrier, it certainly helps us get outside and go on more adventures! It's made out of a sportier mesh fabric that keeps you cooler and dryer for outdoor activities. And when you have a 22 pound 7 month old, you need all the help you can get carrying him around! I let my sister borrow our carrier this week to see if she liked it. She has a bitzy little baby girl and so she used the infant insert. She's sold and can't wait to order one for herself. This little miracle has easily made it's way to our favorite things list! I wish I were Oprah and could give you each one! Haha
I loved my friend, Dani's tip on how to stay even cooler while baby wearing this summer--an ice-pack in the zipper pocket! Genius! Here are some more tips on staying cool while baby wearing in the summer.

We stayed the night in Pine and had breakfast at the historic Randall House before heading back to Mesa. I couldn't even deal with how cute Simon was in his red long-johns!

{Tunes on Tuesday} Featuring The Civil Wars

4.29.2014

Today's tunes on Tuesday is brought to you by the beautiful Emma, who commented on the last post where I asked about favorite concerts--she said it was The Civil Wars and I hadn't heard of them, so I looked them up and haven't turned them off this whole morning. So soothing, so good!

Thanks for sharing! I love reading all your comments :)

Today I'm busy packing and getting things in order for a grand adventure and I'm listening to my favorite Swedish musician all day long. Enjoy!

Please feel free to share what you've been listening to lately, I always enjoy music inspiration :)

the things i worry about on my drive to work...

1.15.2014

Yesterday, as I was driving to work, I was listening to KOOL 94.5--a favorite radio station of mine since I was a kid--it's slogan is "Good times, Great Oldies, Kool 94.5" so as you might have guessed, it plays 'Oldies' and because most people can find Oldies palatable, it is commonly played quietly at dentist and doctor's offices.

Well, yesterday, on my way to work, a catchy little tune that I didn't recognize came on--as I continued to listen, my car dancing stopped and my face started turning red from embarrassment--I had heard jokes about this song in the past, but somehow had never actually heard it--"Afternoon Delight" was on my radio station--the same radio station that plays at my dentist office. I started sweating a little at the thought of sitting under that iridescent dental light with a spit sucker and several metal tools in my mouth, with my dentist overhead bobbing his head and mindlessly singing along to the radio.

You guys, I would die. DIE!

How did that song ever pass for radio approval back then!? It is full of such insane innuendoes that they might as well not be innuendoes at all! I don't know what I will do if my daymare ever comes to past--I've decided that I must call the radio station before all my dentist appointments and plead with them to take that off their playlist. I must take control of this situation. I must.

12.17.2013

It's a busy week--I'm working feverishly with my partner to plan an influencer's conference in Salt Lake as well as doing a ton of 'end of the year'/christmas planning for the position I volunteer in at church. I'm the secretary of the primary, so it's a lot of paper work (which is luckily something I actually sort of enjoy). It's weird, when I look at my to-do list, I should feel overwhelmed, but instead, I feel excited. I need to be busy to feel fulfilled, I guess. I busy week also makes me really appreciate my weekends, so wish me luck!
What do you do to stay motivated?
I think my helper is good music! {Like this song or this one}

{tunes} on tuesday featuring: Sleeping at last

9.10.2013

I was born in the late 80s and thus was a child of the 90s and this song (the original version) was one of my very favorites as a little girl. I remember I would get so excited when it came on the radio, then one day one of my big brothers (who was a very cool teenager at the time) came home and swooped me up and took me downstairs into "the boy's basement" and said he had something exciting to show me.
When we got down there he pulled a still plastic wrapped CD from a little black bag. Once it was unwrapped he popped the CD into our new CD/Cassette player and the first song on the album was 500 Miles--my favorite. He told me that I could now listen to it whenever I wanted. I was so ecstatic--both because I now had access to favorite song and because I felt really good that my big brother knew me enough to know exactly the thing that would make me feel special and important. I feel like I learned how to be treated by men because of my brothers.
Where did you learn how to be treated?

p.s. obviously this is a modern cover I recently discovered, but it still brought back the memories.

{Tunes} on Tuesday Featuring: Sara Bareilles

8.27.2013

So, I've been loving this song lately and I just saw the music video for the first time today and i liked it even a little bit more. Anyone else think Sara looks particularly gorgeous in it? Seriously. For some reason she's reminding me of my friend Angela Hardison and imagining Angela dance like this is really entertaining me a lot right now. That's all.

What song are you loving right now? I need some music suggestions.

do you ever put on an outfit and just feel like-- a woman? with my body, i often feel like i'm still kind of a kid, it doesn't really bother me, but occasionally i see someone with a really womanly figure and wonder what it might be like to feel really sophisticated and grown up. when i put this outfit together and looked in the mirror i felt like that and it was fun. I'm glad to know i have something in my closet that i can go to when i need to feel, well, more grown up!
