Those Shoes!

4.22.2016

I had a lot of questions about my shoes on instagram this week and unfortunately I got these on from a IG closet sale and they're old and sold out, but every couple years I seem to find this same style and I always buy them because they're so perfect for Spring and Summer, so I compiles a grouping of similar options for you to shop! Just click on the image and it will take you to their site :)

My Spirit Outfit

3.01.2016

When Kirsten, my long time virtual friend and amazing photographer contacted me telling me she'd be in Arizona for a weekend and had a few hours to kill on my birthday weekend and offered to shoot our family, I thought I must be dreaming! It was so fun to get all dressed up and spend time in one of my favorite places ever (i'm obsessed with PLANT NURSERY!) with people I love all while meeting an online friend, who I loved even more IRL! We're hoping to get up to Northern California to meet her new pup and explore her gorgeous area! I'll be sharing (lots, sorry) of our family photos too, but first an outfit post, because it's been ages and I got a lot of questions about this dress when I posted peeks a while ago.

wood's a burnin' DIY

1.27.2013

this weekend Marcus and i finally got social and met up with my insta buddy Hillary and her husband.
we met virtually through a common interest in DIYing (and then strangely realized that Marcus and Hillary had gone to jr. high together, and her husband, Mitch, and i had gone to a cabin together once in high school)--small world much?
anyway, we had been talking about getting together and crafting for a long time, but our schedules never seemed to match up.
Luckily Friday the stars aligned and we had such a fun night getting to know each other, playing with their wookie dog, Sophie  watching an old classic (dumb & dumber) and wood burning these cooking spoons. it was my first time and now it's safe to say i'm an addict and can't wait to get my hands on my own wood burner. Hillary said you can pick one up at Michael's for a measly $25, but i think i'm going to order this one i found on amazon for even cheaper!
We picked up this utensil pack for super cheap and the boys bought a pack of cedar planks to burn our name/house number (which smelled so good by the way!).
we then googled around for a bit to get some design inspiration, sketched out our ideas with pencil first and then burned the night away--it was pretty darn easy and turned out pretty darn adorable.

yay for new friends and new pretties!
have you ever wood burned?
what should i try when i get my own?

once you go smartphone, can you ever go back?

10.18.2012

I read this article on mashable yesterday that got me thinking about something that I already think about a lot--iphone/social media addiction.
I know, I know, it sounds really silly, but probably not as silly to people who have a smartphone. I've gone to brunch with a few blogger friends who admit to the addictive loop of checking emails, twitter feeds, instagram, facebook, etc... So, i know i'm not alone.
In the article it talks about people feeling anxious or jittery when they're not online.
I wouldn't go so far as to put myself in that category, but I would say I feel a pretty annoyed when I know my phone battery is about to die and I won't be able to keep 'up to date' on things until i can get it to a charger.
I just feel like I fill a lot of my 'nothing to do' minutes with an endlessly checking of the online happenings. Some of them matter (I really am so grateful for the friends I've met through these platforms), but some of the things I could definitely live without knowing.

What I'm really afraid of are two things:
1. are those quiet 'nothing to do' moments the ones where i could be receiving creative inspiration (something I feel like i've been lacking in for a while)
and
2. if i'm this engulfed in my phone, what is the next generation going to be like?
frankly, it makes me scared. i don't want them to miss out on life because they're too busy staying up to date online. i don't want to be a hypocrite, so i know i need to make some changes.

i really think that if i wasn't such a big fan of instagram (i may be addicted, but i also have always been addicted to taking pictures of everything--ask my friends that have known me since 3rd grade) i would give up on smartphones and go back to the basics.

Anyone have a (realistic) solution?
Do you feel like you suffer from IUD/Internet Use Disorder?
