Testing the Hypothesis: Do Blondes Really Have More Fun?

10.23.2010

Today I'm too sick
to get dressed up {For Fashion's Sake} Saturday.
Sorry.
Chamomile Tea=Best remedy for a sore throat.

You know how once a girl gets married, it’s almost inevitable that she will cut her long hair off within the first year?

Well, I am not that girl
but I did make a major change.

Carmel

Ever Since 7th grade I have had super-long, blonde hair.
I love blonde hair.
It’s bright. It’s fun. It’s summery.
It’s… fried.

Wait, last one doesn’t really fit, does it?
Though, sadly, it’s true.

Turns out bleach can really damage your hair
If you have short hair, you can get away with it because you’re constantly cutting off the worst parts, but for those of us who can’t get ourselves to cut our long locks--you just have to deal with the nasty split-ends
And did I mention the ever-present roots?
This was taken right before Marcus proposed <3
Oh they are cute!
I hate getting my hair done. I think I have ADHD or something (I really probably don’t) but I seriously HATE sitting still. Sitting still is especially difficult for me when it also involves a large, plastic bib/cape and a
crown of tin-foil.
Not exactly an accurate portrayal of what it's like to get highlights,
but I thought you should see this nonetheless.

So after 9 plus years of highlights I decided to give my natural (or what we think may be my natural) color a try.
While I was in AZ Marcus fixed my 1965 Sherbet, Schwinn Traveler!
Love him.
When I flip through a magazine and see a beautiful blonde I give it a moment of silence and fight back the jealousy monster, but overall I’m really liking it.
Who knows how long it will last, but a change was due
(plus Marcus LOVES it).

Really, I was just getting into the
Idaho Autumn spirit…
Has your state put on it’s Fall colors yet?

What’s your favorite thing about the season?

i LOVE it! it suits you so well. i also did not and will not give in to cutting my hair. no way, no how.

you are gorgeous, girl. and i am loving these fall pics! you know i live in AZ so that should answer your questions right there. ;) but my fave thing? when people start the fireplaces and the smells of it outside. hello nostalgia!

i love it! but the short hair doesn't look all that bad on you either!

i went through the same thing! i had blonde hair for three years and was obsessed, but the upkeep became too much for my poor college student self.

i love your natural hair color, it is gorgeous! and san diego doesn't get too too many fall colors. :)

I'm the same! I love blonde hair and when I try to change by dyeing it darker I miss it so much. But blonde hair is so much work. Right now I have a weird mix of blonde-red-brown. Very pretty (not). I love your hair color now, it's the perfect shade of brown!

Where I live (in Sweden - I'm horrified by the picture you found! haha) we've already been moving on toward the next season - winter. It snowed this week. Sad. I hate the winter. The fall this year was brilliant, though.

Your natural hair color is beautiful. Don't touch it! We in Northern Indiana are past peek and almost empty. Its to the wintery look but with lots of sun and still warm. I hope AZ is treating you well and that ID does the same.

Arizona doesn't do well with the seasons changing. As far as I can tell, it's definitely July right now in Arizona. It's still super hot outside.
I grew up on the eastcoast, so I definitely miss when the seasons change...

I love your hair!
It looks so much healthier.
If you end up missing the blonde you could always lighten it when Summer comes back around :)

It look awesome! Really, really good! I think healthy hair always looks better than any color so stick with the long and healthy look...now I'm the jealous one!

You are gorgeous in any color! What a great look for fall!

Jay begged me for years to go brunette... I finally did it(several years ago)and lasted almost 6 months. I didn't HATE it, but I just couldn't take it anymore because I didn't feel like "me." When I went back to blond, Jay said, "I admit it.... you look better as a blond." :)

does anyone know a better way of replying to people's comments? haha i feel like such a newbie!

I agree with appledapple- healthy hair is beautiful hair. I'd much rather keep my natural color and have healthy, shiny, soft hair than dye it constantly to get the color I want but then have it be brittle, dry, and snapping off. I went through about 4 years of every color under the sun- including pink, purple, blue, and blonde- before I realized that the color we were born with truly does look best on us, suits our skin tone the nicest, and is definitely the healthier way to go!

Sweden is fun. It's quite nice in the summer and in the spring. Now - not so much.
I think that the best things with Sweden could already be found outside of Sweden (H&M and Ikea for example).
But it's nice, I suppose. I want to go everywhere else! To the US and Australia and France....

Love the new hair! I talking with a friend about dying my hair dark and she sent me a link to your blog post...We both found your blog last week thanks to Ms. Busy Bee :)

It looks like I'm in good company and am not the only newlywed who has decided to dye her hair instead of chopping it all off!

Wow Cortney! you sound adventurous! The problem that I had to deal with was that I WAS born with blonde hair. I had blonde silky hair 'til that darn puberty had to hit and then it came in darker. Since my sister was in beauty school she just kept me blonde...until now.

K-T, So what did you decide? Do you think you'll go darker or stay light?

California doesn't change for seasons. More specifically, southern California. The only way I ever know it's fall... Starbucks starts selling pumpkin spice lattes :] but you're right, it's time for a change of hair color.
