CLOSED: yoga in my heart + a giveaway

2.19.2014

The winner is Natasha L'nei! Check your email friend :)
I had a year in my life that was pretty much a dark cloud, I've talked about it once or twice before on here, but without going into detail about it today, I just wanted to share with you the soft spot in my heart I have for yoga. It was my solace during 'that year'. I attended no less than 4 classes a week, usually more, and i had the best teacher--i've unfortunately never been able to find an instructor that i've connected with quite like that one. My heart broke a little bit when i moved by to arizona and found out that he had moved and was no longer teaching classes. I don't think that even if he had been there, it would have been the same, because I was passed that year, and while I still thought it was a great practice, it wasn't something I absolutely needed to survive.

Yoga was what i needed at that time in my life--it let me think about something else, it let me focus on myself and my body and my movements and i needed that control since i couldn't control the other things that were going on in my life. For that, yoga will always have a special place in my heart and it is something I try and practice on occasion still.

Right now I enjoy combining yoga poses with my new 'need'--hiking. I've been feeling stifled and frustrated with my creative state lately, so as I mentioned before, I made the goal to go on weekly hikes. The hikes are much more an excuse to get out and see beauty around me than it is for intense exerise, and they've been such a highlight to my week. Sometimes marcus or friends come along, sometimes it's just me and poppy, and while I love the company, I truly prefer the alone hikes. It gives me the freedom to take as long as I want, stop as many times as I please, to take it all in and just be.  I hope each of you can find something that makes you feel that way, because I believe it's truly good for the soul that you have.

God has given us ways to feel enlightened and loved.
We have to find them.

I love to run. It's been bitterly cold here in the mornings before work which is my usual run time, but this morning, I finally got to abandon the treadmill and run outside. Glory!

Running regularly...It is therapy to me! I love fresh air and seeing things that you often overlook when you're in a car.. I would add yoga to that as well. The duo makes me feel unstoppable! I follow you instagram, bloglovin and pinned on pinterest!

I have been trying to exercise lately too, and it helps. I find writing helps, and reading. Doing something mindless.

The things that makes me feel alive aren''t so much what I do, but rather the people that I surround myself with. The times that I feel alive and whole are usually when I'm with my family. When my parents, my three sisters, and my niece/nephew get together, there I am whole. I am safe. I am free to be unashamedly me. :)

My newest thing that makes me feel alive is running! I've been running 25-30 miles a week and it's the most refreshing aspect of my entire day.

I am in a bit of a long distance relationship right now, where we only get to see each other on the weekends. It's tough, but I use baking as my keeping myself sane and whole hobby. It's fun, and everyone at work LOVES it!

Blogging is the thing that makes me feel whole and alive. My blog is just my own - I don't have a lot of readers, and I like it that way. I don't have to worry about what others want to read or see, I can just post my own words and pictures without care. It's the best thing to be able to go back and look over my life to see where I have come from and where I'm going :)

You are a woman after my own heart. Yoga is my activity of choice to help me remember the positives in life and to uplift me on crummy days or keep me going on good days. I always leave refreshed.

I work out every morning before I "start" my day. It gives me a little me time and allows me to be more productive for the rest of the day.

I love this. One thing that helps me feel more alive is dance. I grew up dancing and never really realized it was something I loved so much until I was no longer doing it. I remember my first year away from home was one of the hardest and I was so used to having my exercise be dance that I didn't know how to get my exercise in once that wasn't really an option so I joined a dance class and it helped me get out of the depression I guess you could call it that I was in. Now whenever I'm not in the best mood I put my headphones in and dance around my room and I'm good :) It sounds kind of silly, but you got to do what you got to do.

I like to open my blinds in my apartment and read a book with natural light. I live in freezing cold idaho, so right now that is about as close as I want to get to outside, but the natural light and colors of the day make me feel alive.

I Follow you and bloglovin and instagram :) I have never been into going to a gym and working out, but since I've started my job the stress caused a bit of weight gain. I immediately felt horrible about myself. Last year I discovered Zumba. I have always loved to dance so when I got up the courage to go to a class I felt invigorated! I am planning on getting my Zumba certification so I can teach others to do what I love as well :)

Baking is really therapeutic for me. ....but it's not great for my health! I could definitely use more motivation to stay on top of my workouts!

I am a new follower of your blog, and deepening my yoga practice this past year has been the only thing that helped me pull through a tough year - thankfully the end is in sight :) I don't attend yoga classes but work on my practice on my own, which has been very healing as I can focus on my current needs. Plus it has really helped build body awareness and confidence in myself.

Play soccer. It's part of my soul and is totally wrapped up in my identity. As I get older it's hard to let it go and I just don't have the time or the ability to play as I once did and sometimes I feel as though part of me has shriveled up forever.

Boxing is what makes me feel whole and alive. Even though it exhausts me to the core, its such an exhilarating feeling to be able to put every ounce of strength I have into every punch. Time no longer becomes relevant in those hour long classes, but my ability to physically and mentally persist through every challenging drill.

Something that makes me feel whole is being with my little brother. He encourages me, loves me, and gets me. He is leaving for Mozambique in March for his mission, and while I support him entirely (and the church), I feel like it's something I have no control over, because I don't. Perhaps yoga will fill that void of lack of control. Thank you for your idea.
