{Tunes} on Tuesday: Featuring The Honey Trees

1.08.2013

i'm in love with this song, this video, this girls hair and oh yeah--her voice. i hope you enjoy.
in unrelated news, on thursday poppy reh is getting spayed and i am having anxiety about it. i feel terrible that she will have no idea why we allowed someone to cut her open take out part of her and then leave her hurt and with a cone of shame on her neck.
and the thought of keeping her 'resting' and 'inactive' for 14 days after...? clearly these vets have never met my dog, keeping her inactive for more than 10 minutes is a feat. can someone ease my troubled mind or offer me any sort of advice? can i just cancel her appointment and just make sure she never gets frisky with any neighborhood tramps? ahhhhhhh!

I'm just gonna give it to you straight… I think you're being a bit dramatic about your dog's appointment. It's definitely okay to be worried and nervous, but think about how many dogs went through it and were fine. She may be an active dog, but she likely won't want to run around afterward anyway. It's 14 days, and you will both live.

When my cat was spayed she was very drowsy afterwards and wasn't very up to playing and bouncing about (as kittens do) so that helped. Her body knew she needed to rest so have hope that will be the case with your pup as well. Just give her lots of loves and snuggles!

When Harvey got neutered they gave us a sedative so he would stay calm. You should ask them about that. You don't want her ripping it open :-)

Hi I'm a vet student and I can tell you that animals, especially young ones can tolerate surgery very well. In fact I've had several patients try to get up and run around and lick my face just minutes after waking up from surgery. A spay is a very simple procedure and as long as the proper pre-op protocols are followed she should do very well. Of course there are risks as with any surgery but it goes quick and the benefits outweigh the risks significantly. Her risk of developing mammary cancer goes up significantly if she remains unspayed not to mention behavioral issues (running away etc) and other health problems (pyometra- a life threatening infection of the uterus is pretty common in older unspayed females). If you do not plan on breeding her then spaying is definitely the way to go. If your clinic doesn't require you to already you may want to spend the extra money to get pre-op bloodwork done. The Dr will be able to identify issues that aren't physically noticeable that could lead to issues with surgery. It's worth it in my opinion to ease your mind and I would never put my animal under anesthesia without it. More and more clinics are making it a requirement these days anyway. As far as keeping her quiet, it really is a necessity and we def understand how puppies are but you do not want her incision to come open leading to more pain for her an increased risk of infection and more money since she would need to go under anesthesia to fix it. You could try crating her or asking your vet for a mild sedative to keep her calm for the first few days. Hope this helps! She will be back to new in no time!

@Sara - she is FAR from dramatic. I have seen it all and heard lots of stories about crazy pet owners and she definitely falls in the normal category :)

The Honey Trees are super wonderful! Love 'em.
We spayed our family dog, who is also a rambunctious, active pup, and she was all right! :)

I love this rendition of Moon River! Thanks for sharing! Sorry about Poppy. It seems like they do recover pretty quickly, but it makes you wish they made doggie birth control, doesn't it?
