the day i realized i was a fool.

5.22.2012

sunday was one of the greatest days of my life.
sunday there was a solar eclipse and no, it did not involve disgusting vampires or silly a capella groups.

it did, however, involve a few of my very favorite things that are neither silly nor disgusting:
1. the moon 2. the sun 3. my local community college planetarium 4. amazing 'solar viewers' (that i didn't know were one of my favorite things until i used them for the first time on sunday) and 5. telescopes
you guys, it's like no one really understood the crazy awesomeness that we were witnessing!
i was running, and jumping, and squealing, and almost bursting out into tears when I looked in the telescope and saw the moons passing in front of the sun--like a lovers rendezvous.
for goodness sakes, LOOK!:
why weren't more people freaking out?
why when i speed across town, with a 'solar viewer' in hand, to try and let my sister and brother-in-law catch the last few seconds of the passing, did they say, "Cool" in sort of the most unconvincing tone anyone could muster?
and probably the most important question of all,
WHY am i not an astronaut?
or at the very least an astronomer?

because i'm a fool.
clearly.

you are adorable, and not a fool. funny, sure, maybe a fool, but not the crazy kind, the cool kind. i was sitting at home making dinner when i realized it was happening, ran outside to see if i could still see it and i missed it. dang it.
also, i love your dress, its adorable.

oh man, get out of my head! I was SERIOUSLY freaking out about this too! IT WAS SO COOL!!! i have a weird obsession with all things space as well ( i just love planetariums, ok? space is just awesome) and think being an astronaut/ astronomer would be SO cool. Also, your dress is adorable. :)

I thought it was the neatest thing ever. Seriously, I looked at it through my "solar viewer" so many times I got a big fat headache. But I can still see so there's the good news.

What was creepy to me was the way everything looked muted and dim even though the sun was so high. Gave me the willies.

I thought it was cool as well, until the ten min or so where the sun would have looked like "the ring" (meaning all covered with a rim around) a cloud covered it, so through our solar viewers the eclipse was just a glow in the sky :( bummer. But it was still cool!

in 1999 there was a solar eclipse visible here in europe. it's been a while ago but i still remember it. it was stunning, i was completely impressed. and like you, i have always been fascinated by things like that (and wanted to be an astronaut until i turned 13 or something) so i'm very grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience and glad, that you enjoyed it as well...
