A Hairy Situation

12.02.2010

I'm pretty stoked about this new do!

This morning I had my laptop on my vanity table as I studied this picture.

  • I began by spraying my whole head with aerosol hairspray because I have fine, silky hair, so the hairspray added body and texture.
  • Next I parted my hair far over to the side.
  • Then I took my small (1/2 inch) curling iron and grabbed pretty big sections, wrapping the hair around the barrel, starting at the root of my hair (rather than rolling it up from the bottom). I only held it there for about 10 seconds, because I wanted it to be a loose, random, messy curl.
  • I would also switch up the direction that I curled, some I curled going backwards and some going forward
  • After I finished about a third of my head I hair sprayed it again.
  • Once I was done with the curls (only took about 5 minutes) I teased the hair at the crown of my head and the bottom few inches of my hair because its thin down there.
  • I held the 3 sections loosely from my head as I braided. I also didn't worry if I overlapped in the wrong place because mistakes in this braid actually look really cool.
  • Finish it off with a clear elastic.
  • Once I finished I sprayed it one more time.

And there you have it--{My} Messy Side-Braid.

What Do You Think?
Are You Going to Give It a Try?

Really nice Ashley!!! :) I love braids! I dont think my hair is long enough yet but as soon as it grows out I shall try it! You should teach the top knot! I have tried the top knot but I have so little hair.(seriously... the diameter of my ponytail does not exceed 3/4") But it turned out pretty cute even though it looked like a top knot wanna-be! Your top knot looked perfect!

PS: fun fact- the last model on the braid collage (bottom right)... her name is Isabeli Fontana she is from my hometown and my mom used to be her Young Women's president! Crazy hu?

Came across your blog. Love it. And the hair? Charming and yet simple. Once my hair grows another 6 inches I will give it a go.
