We're Looking for the Girl Called Alice.

11.01.2010

Alice: Sometimes I believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
The Mad Hatter: That is an excellent practice.

Oh, I really do not think our weekend could have been nicer.
I begged Marcus to take me down to Utah for Halloween, for we live far back in an enchanted forest, and I very much doubted anyone would come trick-or-treating up our lane.
There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter.
Luckily, I am.
He's such a good man, so Friday afternoon (after raking our yard for 4 hours for the second time this week) we began our journey down the rabbit hole.
Saturday was spent putting the final touches on the costumes, eating skeleton cupcakes, and brewing homemade hot chocolate with the nieces and my sweet big sister, Heidi. Then we went to the neighborhood block party and were bestowed with the unofficial Best Costume Award (YES!) After visiting a haunted house, we finished off the evening by falling asleep to Hocus Pocus.

She had never forgotten that, if you drink much from a bottle marked `poison,' it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later.
However, this bottle was not marked `poison,' so Alice ventured to taste it, and finding it very nice, (it had, in fact, a sort of mixed flavour of cherry-tart, custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast,)
she very soon finished it off.
Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?
The Mad Hatter: Have I gone mad?
Alice: I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers.

But I'll tell you a secret.
All the best people are.
I was really excited to be playing the part of Alice as I have always felt akin to her. I am, perhaps, a mix of her and the Mad Hatter...Which makes me very peculiar, indeed.
Please tell me you've read the book?
Oh, it's pure genius and I am about to pick it up again!

anyways...

Sunday, after church, we drove through Robert Redford's Sundance Resort (Home of the Sundance Festival) It was breathtaking!
This was taken out my car window! I'm not even joking.
Aspens may very well be my favorite tree in the forest.
Then over the river and through the woods we landed at NieNie & Mr. Nielson's house to drop off a birthday gift for Claire and draw Halloween pictures with the kids before we headed back to our forest.
I told this marshmallow cloud to get in my mouth, but he didn't listen to me.
I heart this color combination.

I was a very distracted driver as Marcus studied for his test in the passenger seat beside me.
The scenes all around were testaments of our Creator.
He is the master artist and I feel His love all around me whenever I am outside!

 Lost my muchness, have I?
The End.

*I found this 1980s floor-length formal and my mom helped me make it into an Alice dress, I made my apron, and we thrifted and sewed all of Marcus's outfit on Saturday :)
Halloween is SOOO satisfying.

Gosh, you are so creative and I am inspired. This makes me very happy indeed. For a while there I really thought I was the only person in the world who is obsessed with Alice in Wonderland!

I can't believe you took that photo from your car window, you should frame it. Its breathtaking!
Awesome costumes, but I knew you'd have some great ideas after seeing the round of Halloween pics through the years! We had the BEST Halloween even if they wouldn't go dressed as the Clue boardgame characters!

I loved this post! The pictures with the quotes are just a perfect fit for Halloween! So glad you got to go down the hole to visit the nieces and nephews! Next time just dig a bit deeper all the way to AZ. :)

Wow! That "unofficial Best Costume Award" was well deserved.

What becomes of all your amazing costume designs? I pretty my HATE Halloween, in part because I don't have the time, creativity, or want to spend the money on putting together a costume. So I just look at everyone else and feel jelous :( You could change a life if you donated a years past costume.

Just realized the Aspen photo was NOT taken from your car window, but the one above it. I blame a lack of coffee the day I posted my comment.
