{Tunes} on Tuesday Featuring: Paul Simon

In case anyone was ever curious as to why my photography business is called "Betty Photography," here's your answer:
One day, a long time ago, before they discovered things like the iPhone and dinosaurs and stuff,  I was hanging out with one of my best friends and we were doing something that called for protection.
He asked me if I would be his bodyguard, and immediately inquired if he could call me Betty
Being well versed in the splendor and magic of Paul Simon, I retorted, "Only if I can call you Al."
And right there it was settled.

Did You Know I LOVE Paul Simon?
like, wo.

  1. this song makes me laugh. and want to go skip around somewhere.

my mom calls me freida, which sounds like it would involve a unibrow and some painting skills. my nickname comes from the peanuts character because i used to have bright blonde, curly hair as a child.

infinitely less cooler than your story.

  3. i've always loved this song. in high school everyone called me "newman" [which is my pre-married name]. but i hated it because not only does it sound butch, but they always said it like seinfield.

  4. I LOVE PAUL SIMON. I have a group of friends that call me Polly... One of my particularly outspoken friends said that he could fit me in his pocket because I am so tiny, henceforth, Polly Pocket came along.

  6. In junior high I hung out at this pool hall-esque place every lunch hour. I'd get free slurpees or hot chocolate and it was better than sitting in the cafeteria (aka the gym) for lunch. Well the guy who worked there and gave me and my friends as many slurpees as our little hearts desired called me Rachel. He said I reminded him of a girl named Rachel. And thus nicknamed me Rachel. Of course when my days at Rainbow Recreation were through so was the random new name of Rachel.

  7. i spent most of my life using nicknames for myself rather than my own name. i never really liked my name until i grew up.
probably my favorite alter ego though, was one i had with my friend. her name was connie dum and mine was tammy pawn. we used those names when we did prank calls. ha. what dorks.

  8. My friends call me puber. They thought it sounded with my last name "wray" like a ray gun that would shoot at someone and make them go through puberty. So that is my hideous nickname. I have immature friends haha.

  9. My roommates have come up with a few nicknames. My name is Veronica and apparently that's too long for most people, so they call me V, Miss V, easy V, shy ronnie (from the snl skit)

Also, people have a hard time remembering my name and usually call me victoria or vanessa, so I've been dubbed Vanessica sometimes. I hate it.

  10. When I was in highshool I worked at classy sonic. My first day there my manager called me Lilly and I corrected her and told her that my name was Emily. However, it did not make a difference. From then on my name at sonic was Lilly. My checks and name tags all had the name Lilly on them. I stopped correcting people and started responding to it... I worked there for almost two years and I am pretty sure most people there still have no idea what my real name is.

  11. Love it. :) I don't have a middle name, and my neighbor oh so kindly made one for me about 7 years ago... Felula. :P She constantly called me Felula, and it stuck. Tons of people use it now, and I answer to Felula, Hannah Felula... basically anything now.

  12. ahhh, Paul Simon seriously floats my music loving boat! what a cute story for your biz name too.

one of my besties started calling me GG one day and i thought "oh, how sweet, cos you know i am a girly girl after-all!" well, she cleared up my pre-conceived notion mighty quick and let me know that it was referring to "greedy guts"...but in the most loving and positive reinforcement kinda way. haha ♥

  14. I have a really good guy friend who used to call me Cinderella. And I called him Prince Charming. The two of us have a list of reason why we'll never get married. Funny, right?

  15. Well my maiden name was Ruby Bailey and all my friends started playing the game mix the first letters of your first and last name: buby railey. hmmm, imagine the looks I got from people when they would call me buby in public. People though I was scandalous, little did they know I absolutely did nothing crazy to receive that nickname.

  16. Good choice. There is something magical about paul simon that gets me to clean my house, and dance while doing it. One of my favorites is "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes."

My nickname is a bit sad to admit. I've been coined the nickname "smems." As the youngest sibling of relentless, teasing older brothers and sisters, one of my brothers said I smell a lot (what was I like 7-8, I was probably covered in dirt) and he combined Emily or Em with smells and got smems then added -a-lot. Smems-a-lot, or smems for short. Funny thing is I embraced it and I even have an email account with smems in it and more than one person (not family) know me by that name. A sad reflection that I was the stinky kid. Hahaha, gross.
