hats + babies

4.29.2015

If you want to keep a baby intrigued, wear something big on your head. I learned this trick a few years ago when I used to nanny my nephew. One day I came over with a giant vintage scarf tied in a bow atop my head. He couldn't break eye contact with that puff of silk chiffon. Today I wore a boater hat and every time Simon looked at me, his eyes went straight to it and they grew three times their normal size. Babies are best things around, I tell ya what. Trying to look into their little minds and figure out just what it is they're thinking about you, allows for hours and hours of entertainment. You intrigue them and they go on intriguing you right back!

So true. I wear a hat every day. Because my daughter, age 23 months, sees me in a hat so much, she wanted her own. I got her a fedora at old navy and she won't leave house without it. She is the hat baby. They copy what we do. Your son will love hats too one day.
