states.

6.21.2011

I've been to a fair share of the wonderful states that make up this country, but I've still got a ways to go to fulfill my lifetime goal of see all the states in the union.

The US is amazing because it's so humongous that it offers us so much variety!

visited 17 states (34%)
Create your own visited map of The United States

Places I really want to go and why:
Florida (for the obvious tropical reasons. also, a reader once told me that they have tons of pink yard flamingos. i like that.)
Texas (ever since that antropologie catalog was shot in Austin, i've been dying to see those places)
Montana (i'm pretty sure it's 'big sky' and i would be the closest of friends)
Tennessee (Nashville.)
Colorado (John Denver)
Georgia (i really like peaches)
Louisiana (New Orleans. Jazz)
Washington (must go to pike place market. must eat my weight in apples)
Maine (Autumn)
Massachusetts (Historical Sites)
i also want to go back to Illinois because I didn't go to Chicago :(

Where have you been?
What's been your favorite?

I live in montana and it really is a beautiful state. You should definitely visit sometime!

When I was young, my family traveled a lot (about 30 states). Unfortunately, I don't have very many memories of this because we did most of our traveling when I was ages 4-7. I got ripped off. In my adult life I have been to about 10 states and Oregon is definitely on the top of my list. =]

You would LOVE Austin!  It is amazing.  I've only been there once but it's super awesome.  It would be really awesome to live there!  The music scene is fantastic... so much creativity in one town!!

West Virginia 'the mountain' state! A little props to my home state. Yesterday WV turned 148.  It's also where Mother's Day and Father's Day originated. It's very outdoorsy and especially beautiful during the fall. Example New River Gorge: http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/west-virginia/images/s/new-river-gorge-bridge.jpg

I've mostly been up and down the east coast but my husband and I are planning a tour of the US in the next year or so. Road trip! :) What a beautiful country we live in!

I think it is amazing how different life and people are in each state. I am very happy to see that Colorado is on your list :) If are ever headed that way, let me know and I will give you lots of must-sees! I am in Georgia now, so I could give you a few tips there too. Atlanta is ehh, but I just got back from Savannah. And it was amazing!! Like going back to colonial and victorian times... except with ac, which is a avery good thing in 100+ degree heat and humidity. (As much as I wanted to be in a big Scarlet O'Hara dress, I have no idea how the survived in one) :) I love your picture in from of the AZ flag!

Kentucky.  It's beautiful in the spring time.  Lightning bugs and honestly the greenest grass you have ever seen.

My family did a church history tour back East when I was in high school. It was the best road trip. (And longest). Also total side note, I thought you might like this: http://www.modcloth.com/Womens/Accessories/Necklaces/-Loveliest-of-All-Necklace

Alaska! It's expensive to go up there, but Alaska in May or June, with it's never setting sun, mind-blowing nature, fishing, hiking, and other endless outdoor activities... you wouldn't regret it a single bit:)

I live in North Caroline, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I love it. We live in Charlotte, where there is so much to do (the 24-hour French Bakery doesn't hurt anything), but what I love most is that there is mountains and beaches all in the same state. Also, Asheville is the best artsy town ever, so if you're ever in NC go there, it's so hippy-ish (which is the reason I love it).

You totally want to come to Iowa and visit me, right? :) Actually, Maine is my favorite state ever! Go there!

Ashley..have you been to Wisconsin Dells? You and Marcus should definitely go up there and try it out. The whole town is a water park!

Autie said...

You didn't remember little ol' Michigan?! I'm not talking Detroit here - you've gotta go wayyy far north until you reach Emmet County, baby!  :-) Water as far as your big blue eyes can see, historic downtown gaslight districts, white sandy beaches, old white pine forests... you really can't get any better than northern Michigan.  Just ask Kid Rock.

I live in South Carolina, about 2 hours from Asheville, and I agree, Ashley, you NEED to visit Asheville.  it's the cutest town EVER.  Also, Greenville, SC is not bad ;)

I have the same goal as you and I am getting really close only 13 more states to go!  The northwest states are my next adventure.  I can't wait to see the gorgeous forests, lakes and national parks they have to offer.

You would LOVE Nashville. And let me just say, it's not just country music ... we have loads of music across the board and we dont all wear 10-gallon hats and cowboy boots. I can see you hanging at Imogene+Willie (www.imogeneandwillie.com) or in historic Hillsboro Village (www.facebook.com/hillsborovillageevents). Get out here!

my thoughts on the places you want to go: Florida- love it! want to go back so badly. Austin, Texas - really loved it. we stayed at the Austin Motel which was not remotely nice but it was awesome and 100% Austin. just down the street from downtown too.  Nashville, TN - loved the city! didnt get much time there but would love to go back! Colorado- one of my favorite places! Georgia - i did not like it really at all : /, Seattle, Washington- i want to go back so badly! i went when i was 14 so I didnt really get to enjoy it for all it's worth. Illinois- where all my family lives, inc my dad and step mom.  Chicago is amazing and I want to move there SO badly! Lousiana, Maine, Mass- dying to go!

Oh I love this post! There are so many places I want to visit. You make me want to visit Arizona and I would love to go to Seattle. I've never been out west besides California, which is definitely on my top states list. I've only been to about 11 states so my goal is to travel more.

I live just south of Chicago and you must visit! I love going to Navy Pier on warm summer nights looking over the lake. Also, there's a really nice beach on Northerly Island that is right next to the Charter One Pavilion. I love hanging out there and listening to the concerts

I've been to all the states except Alaska and each one has something to love.  If you love peaches, you don't need to go to Georgia - Colorado has the best peaches in the world (I'm serious, my parents live in Georgia and they come to CO every year for peaches.)  And CO is just a breeze away from AZ - I highly recommend it for your next road summer road trip.

I've been to 29!! Went on an amazing roadtrip last summer, and got 28 new ones! I'd only ever been to Chicago/Illinois before.
I thin my fave was Oregon, so pretty and people were incredibly nice. Though I loved so many states, it's kind of hard to choose!

Amanda Buckelew said...

Come to Louisiana!! It will be an experience for sure.

Marissa Conover said...

I have the same goal! I'm at 38%. You will LOVE Pike Place Market. Amazing. Seattle in general is incredible, there are so many cool aquariums and fresh fish places. Easily one of my favorite cities ever. If you do visit, make sure you do in the summer. Less drizzle, but you still get some of the famous (or infamous) rain. My husband and I lived in Michigan last year, and the great lakes are beautiful. There are some awesome little towns near the lakes for tourists. Detroit = ghetto though, so you can skip that part. And girl, if you go to Chicago, you have to go to Paradise Pup, for some serious burger action.

i've got that goal too!! i'm at 13 states so far. i really want to go to illinois (chi-town), massachusetts (boston), oregon (portland), louisiana (new orleans)...there are also a bunch of them i wanna go back to. like NY, washington (back to seattle). florida (i've been to orlando but i wanna go to miami), hawaii...

this is cool! i feel like i'm pretty lucky with the states i've been too, especially ones i've lived in.  my dad was in the coast guard so i've gotten to live in both alaska and hawaii! i lived in north carolina for a long time too and whenever we moved we drove across the states (from hawaii (flew to washington) to nc to alaska and back to nc!) so i've gotten to visit lots!  if  you ever get the chance you should visit alaksa. it's sooo beautiful and definitely my favorite

My favorite so far was my brief stay (and by brief I mean less than 24 hours) to Charleston, South Carolina. My 2nd favorite was Nashville, Tennessee. If you go - you're gonna love it!!
