{Top Five} Friday

12.17.2010

Did you know I LOVED last weeks {Top Five} Comments???
I hope someday I can take some of you up on your offers to go out to dinner with us in your city.
How fun would that be???

Now, onward.
You know how I have magical super powers in the smell department?
(see here and here for more on that matter.)

Well, along with smelling all-things-terrible
I also have a good nose for deliciousness.
So, this week's {Top Five} are scents I love--either from personal experience, or from repeated encounters with them on others.

**Note: I strongly recommend going to the store and asking for a sample before you fork out the cash on a new fragrance.
Everyone has different skin oils and perfumes will smell differently on each person, but these are my personal favorites.

{Top Five} Fragrances
for her:
1. Nina by Nina Ricci
Marcus gave me this on our honeymoon, so whenever I wear it, it brings back very fond memories...
2. DKNY Be Delicious
I wore this in high school, but I like it more on others than on myself.
3. TOCCA Eau de Parfum-Florence
My sister-in-law, Reachel, wears this and it will definitely be my next fragrance purchase. love. love. love.
4. Cocoa Butter Sensuous Escape by Victoria's Secret
This is my favorite lotion because I most lotion give me bumps after I shave, but I've never had that problem with VS lotion, and Marcus loves it because it reminds him of Hawaii.
5. Beautiful Sheer by Estee Lauder
I always put this on when I go to the mall, it's just light and summery. I'm not sure if I'd ever buy it, but you might give it a try.

for him:
1. Lacoste Red
I gave this to Marcus for his birthday this year. YUMMY!
2. Kenneth Cole Black
Marcus tried this one on and I didn't like it on him, but I had a friend who used to wear it and I loved it on him.
Again, try before you buy!
3. Acqua Di Gio
I sort of want to wear this--it smells so good.
4. I AM KING by Sean John
I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but I do not care, Marcus and I both loved it last time we were at the mall.
5. Polo Big Pony Red #2
We got a sample of this and it's Marcus's next cologne purchase.

Alrighty, You Know What To Do...
Dish it!

p.s. if you're new to the blog and are curious about how i fell for with Marcus, there's a new page up with the story...

HAHA! "I Am King" I bought for my boyfriend as a gift and I was so worried that he wouldn't like it because it was made by P.Diddy. It definitely is kind of ghetto but the scent is oh, so good!!!

I wear perfumes according to my mood and what I'm wearing!

Sophisticated and girly-Nina by Nina Ricci. Seriously love this one. When I worked at Walgreens in the beauty department I'd use the sampler EVERY DAY.

Boho/Hippie-Sunflower by Elizabeth Arden.
This one's more earthy and lighter and just. MM. And I feel like I don't need to be so dressed up to wear it.

Flirty/Sexy-Fantasy by Britney Spears.
Wearing anything by Britney makes me feel a little slutty... HA! But it just smells so so good! Almost like you could eat it. hahaha

For men:
Hugo Man by Hugo was the other scent I'd smell EVERY DAY at Walgreens. SO so hot.

And my boyfriend wears Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana. But I might just like this one because it smells like my boy. :) You know how that goes.

This was a fun post, thanks! Smells are kind of a big deal for me too. I'll have to check out the ones you like. :)

P.S. Merry Christmas!

I usually like your blog, but why on earth is liking a Sean John cologne "ghetto"? The entire line is classy suiting and casual wear. It just happens to be designed by a black man who occasionally produces and performs hip-hop and rap music. Unless "ghetto" just means "black", count me as a little offended.

I love Viva la Juicy.. it's one of those perfumes that never gets old for me! And it doesn't hurt that the packaging is pretty. My favorite 'body spray' type of scent is Midnight Pomegranate. Yummy!

oh. my. goodness. i'm a scentaholic!
okay. some of my faves:

juicy by juicy, daisy by mark jacobs, princess by vera wang, coco madame moiselle by chanel, lovely by sjp and a really chep scent called hailey by aeropostale... i usually am willing to splurge in the perfume department and try to steer clear of cheap scents, but i smelled the hailey once and i just HAD to get it. its wonderful.
dkny delicious is also very wonderful too.
mmmmm.
and i will forever be a fan or kenneth cole's rsvp for men. yum-o.

My husband, Andrew, wore Lacoste Red every day we lived in England and I loved it. When it ran out we never replaced it because it's so much more expensive in the states and then we forgot about it. I'm definitely going to save up for it! I forgot how much I miss that smell :)

1. Ralph Lauren Black (For men. If a man wears this and I am near him, I automatically love him. True story.)
2. Britney Spears Curious (I have been asked on dates because of that perfume!!)
3. Davidoff Cool Water (They make it for men and women, I have the women's fragrence. AMAZING!!!)
4. Vera Wang Princess (I don't have it, but it's my next perfume investment, after I replace my Britney Spears)
5. Ralph Lauren Cool (For women)

Ok i LOVE Tocca Florence. I got this for Christmas just days before my first trip to Italy a couple of years ago and now whenever i smell it, it reminds me of my trip! I also love Viva La Juicy and Light Blue by D&G. Also, Coco Chanel Mademoiselle. And Versace Woman.

I am getting new perfume for Christmas (traditional gift from my mom!) and this post is AWESOME. Now i at least know where to begin!

Emily Elizabeth, i am so sorry to have caused any offense. i truly only want people to feel rainbows and butterflies when they visit the blog. i just sort of associate rap music with the word ghetto, whether it was P. Diddy or Eminem just because that is often the topic of many rap songs, but it was stereotypical of me and i hope you can accept my apology.

No problem, Ashley. Thanks for that. It can just be a sensitive topic- not all black people are "ghetto", but lots of people assume so. I promise there's a whole black middle class out there!
