Domo Arigato

5.14.2014

Hello friends!
I hope your day is going swell. I'm spending the day cleaning house and grocery shopping--exciting life, I tell you what :)
I've been wanting to give the kimono trend a try and when I saw this bright floral WITH tassels (!) I knew this was the one. I planned on pairing it with a white tee, but when I saw this striped one hanging in my closet, I thought that would really add a punch to the look. I wore this to the cinco de mayo party I mentioned yesterday. Although kimonos have a Japanese history, something about it also reminded me of a Mexican shawl, so I figured it would work.

What do you think? Will you be sporting a kimono this summer?
I'm thinking this could also make a cute swim cover-up!

Give me all the giant shirts.

4.02.2014

Unfortunately for Marcus, who loves me in fitted t-shirts, I am a sucker for giant ones that offer no feminine shape--maybe it's because they're so comfortable, maybe it's because i think it makes my legs look thiner, maybe it's because i wish i were a witch and they seems like something a witch doctor who lived in a cottage in the forest would wear...(I'll give you a hint, it's probably the last one), I can't be sure, but I am sure that I'm in love with this shirt, i'm in love with skinny jeans that i don't have to roll and I am in love with these booties (even if some battery acid burned off the side of the left one--don't ask.)

What are you loving this Spring?

Nobody told me this before, but doing short hair is exponentially harder than doing long hair. Burning my fingers, my scalp and my neck have just become expected occurrences every morning. Somebody came over to pick something up that they bought from @shoptheunicorn, and I literally begged her to teach me how she did her cute short hairdo. Turns out going 14 years with long hair really stifles your hair skills development.

I SHALL CONQUER YOU SHORT BOB, IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!

lovers week ❤

2.10.2014

Tis the week of love! I mentioned that Valentine's Day was coming up a few weeks ago and Marcus let out an annoyed sigh--luckily, I'm sort of right there with him. We love a good reason to celebrate, but we choose to celebrate Arizona's Birthday on February 14th. Obviously, neither of us are anti-love, but there's something about fuzzy red handcuffs greeting me when I walk into Target that really turns me off to the idea of a commercialized day dedicated to the emotion (said the girl in the sequined lip sweater, posing in a cage...).
Don't get me wrong, I've seen Valentines Day Decor done right and I'm all for that--I'm sure once we have kids, I'll be more interested in celebrating this holiday, but until then, it's our day to pay homage to the state in which we were both born--and I'm happy with that!
Do you have any February 14th traditions? Do share!

2.06.2014

As you can see, Poppy is VERY suspicious of cameras. She genuinely despises getting her picture taken, and hates when I am getting mine taken as well. If you didn't know animals could give you the sink-eye, they can. They can do oh-so-many more things than you ever thought possible--such as ingest your favorite pair of shoes, barf on your sheets in the night and then wake up completely hogging your pillow, like they own the place, or meticulously clean out your nostrils against your will with their tiny pink tongues, and yet somehow after all the madness and even during it sometimes, they can make you believe they're the cutest thing on the planet and deserving of all your love. And she has it. I love that little Poppy Reh, even when I hate her.
In other news, I finally bit the bullet and cashed in a Nordstrom Gift Card I've had since my birthday in november on these beautiful ankle booties. I've been dying over them for about 7 months, and since I never found anything I liked better, I knew it was time (SO THANK YOU MA NIELSON FOR SUBSIDIZING THESE BEAUTES!) They're keeping me cozy in this chillier than normal weather we've been having :)

choosing my galentine.

1.30.2014

Last weekend, I had the lovely pleasure of rubbing shoulders with the beautiful Brooke White--she was wearing this dress and I was gushing with envy, sure that it was a magical vintage 1970s thrift store score. She was pleased with my keenness toward 1970s duds, and called me her soul sister, but informed me that she had actually got it from Lulu*s! Within minutes, it was in my cart and a week later, on my back porch. It is heaven, and paired with these gorgeous Seychelles from my favorite gals at PB&J, I was feeling groovy, and just myself. I love how there are just some outfits that feel like you, this was one of those.

So, what I'm saying is that I'm going to ask all the fine ladies mentioned above to be my Galentine this February, because they treat me so right, and I love them so!

New Year

1.13.2014

New Years is my favorite.

I love the idea of a fresh start, a time to contemplate and decide what's ready for improvement in one's life.
I've always been a goal oriented person--it was hard for me when I realized the man I fell in love with, was not someone highly motivated by goal setting, because part of what motivated me in my goal accomplishment was the idea that you're sort of proving someone wrong when you actually accomplish the thing you set out to do. Maybe that's not at all what goal setting is about, but it is, however, some of the satisfaction I personally got out of it.

But as marriage is ever so often about, you must learn to adjust to each others quirks--I've learned that if I want to feel satisfied and fulfilled in my goal setting, I need to find the motivation within myself and compete against myself if I have to--to prove myself wrong, instead of looking to someone else for that.

This year I've made a rather simple list of various things in a few different categories I want to work on, that I may or may not share here on the blog, but the two physical one's I will share, are that I want to be able to do 100 pushups (so I do pushups about 5 times a week before I go to bed) and I want to go on a hike a week, so that I can get better at incline training and so that I can enjoy the beauties that Arizona has to offer.
I've been doing really good so far...thirteen days in ;) and it feels amazing. I feel good about myself every time I take the time to do what I committed to myself to do. (And I've even noticed it's rubbing off a little onto that man I love...)

I'm excited for this year. I hope by the end of 2014, I find myself a better, stronger person, with more experience under my belt. That's what it's all about, right?

What do you have planned for yourself this year?
What's going to be better in 2014?
What's motivating you to keep it up?
