Our Guilty Pleasure:

5.26.2011

Whenever we're bored, we simply drive to Chandler Mall, go to the puppy shop,
pace the row until I decide which puppy looks the most desperate to get out of those tiny little cages,
pretend we can actually afford to buy a dog that's marked up 4x as much as it should be, ask if a holding room is available, get our chosen pup, play and play and play and snuggle until I'm just about to take all money I have in my savings account and sell my liver so that I can buy the honey that has won our heart, the pet lady comes in and says it's time for the little nugget to go back in the cage, I cry a little bit, then we go back home, until we need a dose of puppy again and we go back to hold another...
This is a most excellent way to spend your free-time.
I suggest you give it a try.

I may have even filled out an application last time I was there, just so I could spend more time with the treasures...

Have You Checked Out the New Items in The Shop, Yet?

oh  my gracious, what a sweet way to spend your time! those little babies have my heart, too! my husband and i were walking outside the other week and four baby kittens came running up to our heels. needless to say, my heart swelled and we rescued them. it would be so hard to leave those doggies in their cages!

I visit the petshop when I get depressed. Nothing can cheer me up like a pup!

I wouldn't be able to leave any of them there!
But I agree, nothing better than a sweet snuggle from a fur-baby to brighten your day!

The last time I went to look at a puppy I left with him :)

Have you considered going to a pound to play with the pups?

I have done that before :) My husband and I can't afford a dog either so we are fostering one. It is like renting a dog/puppy without the expense, and you are doing a good thing for the world, so it is a win-win-win. Except the having to say goodbye when they get adopted... that part is sad. But then you get another to love and care for.

We do this too!  Anytime I am feeling down in the dumps to the pet store we go, nothing better.

I used to like your blog, but this post just made me bummed.  Go volunteer at a shelter- there are plenty of homeless puppies there that are free.  Plus, you won't support the puppy mill industry.  I think I'll stop reading your blog for now.  sorry.

The shop we go to guarantees that they do not support puppy mills, but you're right, a puppy shelter is a good idea. thanks.

that is a fantastic idea! go you!

i called the pound last week, but they're always closed at the times we can go. hopefully soon we can :)

i'm not the biggest cat person, but on my heart just melts for kittens!

So cute!  Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness forgot about puppies.

Awww I couldn't do it. I would be too heartbroken. I love dogs sooo much!

i think you should do both - the pet store and the shelter/pound.  all puppies need & deserve love no matter where they are or how they got there.  {although the one marcus is holding might deserve extra love....because it might be the cutest thing i've ever seen.}

so what we've learned here is that...1) puppymills are not to be supported & 2) your bracelets are awesome.

great.  xoxo!!!

I could never do that, I would probably cry if I ever held a puppy that i wanted and couldnt have it! I go to the pet store all the time to look at weiner dogs (I want one SOOO BAD) and the kids i nanny for beg me to take one out to play with it but i just cannot :(

My husband and I used to do this exact thing! But then the store decided it was unsanitary (I'm very clean, thank you) and shut it down. Now you can only peek at the little babes through a hole in the door the size of a peephole. And now those puppies don't get any loving unless it is from very, very, very serious buyers. That first little pup you're holding is so precious! Is it a Pomeranian?

I wish there were a was a way to make puppies and kittens stay kitten! I really  wish there were.

Hahha, we do this, be careful you may end up buying one.

There are puppy mills?  Do they sell it by the pound?  (smacking lips)

Jennie said...

I want. That's such a great idea!!

Get yourself a rescue! They are cheaper and will love you forever and ever.

And sorry, my dog is the cutest ever, so that title is already taken... but you can work toward second cutest. OK, that sounds a lot more bratty than intentioned. This is just a proud mama talking.

OMG PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in love with the one you are holding.

Before I got my pups, I used to volunteer at the Humane Society. Usually, they need people to walk the dogs and play with the animals, and you can go in any time. Those little guys need even more attention... But any animal deserves to be played with, that's for sure!

I like your way to spend your free-time. I think this doesn't exist in petshops in Spain.
Like someone else said, I think taking a dog rescued is awesome. Never done that (I have two dogs which were given to me by their owners as puppies), but I plan to do it when I have my own home.

i would never be able to do that.  i would be too sad to leave.  i have a soft heart when it come to animals, so i would probably end up selling my kidneys to get as many as i could. i always avoid the pet shops for this reason.

SOOO cute!! we just got a dog and our house is full of puppy love.
never knew i could love a creature as much as my own children. you need to see him!! hes full grown, but only 5 lbs.
i hate those dang puppy mills. the poor puppies that come from them! --- so adorable. i hope they can find good homes for them :(

Jenna said...

I totally do this, too.

love this idea!!!

girlfriend, i'm glad you're proud of your pup! i'm sure it's adorable!

Ashley Nielson said...

the stores ALWAYS say that though

I've done that a few times! My 2 favorite breeds are Bulldogs & Japanese Chin. Every time we go to the mall for something, I swing by the pet store, and if they have either of those breeds I ask to play with them for a few minutes. I feel so bad for the poor little things!
