the 90s called and i answered.

currently loving:
short hair--it's reached a length i am really happy with--it's funny how long it took me to work up the courage to make the chop and once it was done, i never thought about it again--just loved it.
90s fashion--who knew i would whole-heartedly accept this strange era of style back into my life so openly, but i love it and i won't apologize for it. (ps--if you're a narrow shoulder suffer like i am, gap has this vest in petite! it made my dreams come true :))
red lipstick--i like to keep my makeup pretty clean and simple, but i have fun with the lip color, it's been hot pink for a while now, but this week I've been loving the red!
windy days--we've been having uncommonly breezy days this week and it really takes the edge off the rising temps, plus it sounds so lovely to leave the doors open and hear the wind rushing through the trees, i've been drinkin' it in!
pupusas--it's an el salvadoran food that just blows my mind with happiness. i hope you have a restaurant that serves them in your area. my favorites are the loroco and the bean and cheese. marcus loves the shrimp and cheese. this is the place we go to.
poppy's photobombing--always and forever.
the smell of rosemary--we have two plants of it in our porch garden and i feel like i'm doing drugs when i smell it. it's quite heavenly.
performing all the parts to disney classics in the car--personal favorites are Belle (Little Town), and Poor Unfortunate Souls, i'm pretty amazing at it, I must say.
gardening--i planted some beets, carrots and squash in my parents backyard and i think about them constantly. All i want in life is to have my own farm with a giant garden and some animals and a good fitting pair of overalls. also to travel the world and some baby cheetahs, but mostly the garden thing...
What have you been loving lately?

{Tunes on Tuesday} Featuring The Civil Wars

4.29.2014

Today's tunes on Tuesday is brought to you by the beautiful Emma, who commented on the last post where I asked about favorite concerts--she said it was The Civil Wars and I hadn't heard of them, so I looked them up and haven't turned them off this whole morning. So soothing, so good!

Thanks for sharing! I love reading all your comments :)

festival style

4.25.2014

Not sure that I'll be going to any music festivals this summer, but that won't keep me from playing with the styles from it.

Speaking of music, what's the greatest concert you've ever been to? Isn't it the best when you're there and the artist is creating the music right in front of you and they actually sound good live? It's pretty magical and for it, it makes hearing the song later, forever different and special because you can remember the time, the artists were in front of you, playing that song live.

We've been to some pretty great shows, but Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver were definitely two highlights.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

sweater weather.

4.22.2014

Last week we had a beautiful storm roll in that gave us a few more days of heavenly Spring weather. We drank it in and spent as much time as we could walking around our community garden and ate almost all our meals on the patios of our favorite cafes. I'm going to miss this time of year, before it's even fully gone, I find myself missing it.

Spring is the time of the Unicorn and the unicorn in me is happiest in the springtime.

We're actually toying with the idea of moving, somewhere that is green more of the year. Marcus wants Seattle, I'm not sure this Arizona girl can survive the clouds, but I'm willing to give it a try--maybe.

Where would you move, if you could live anywhere in the USA?

4.17.2014

Hey guys! I just got back from a day trip up to our cabin in the mountains with my mom. We left our computer there last weekend when we were up there with family watching this.

We woke up early and made some thrift store stops in Payson, grabbed the computer, then hit every single antique shop/thrift store in Pine. I got some pretty great gems.

I love small town thrift stores. The prices are awesome and it seems like there's less competition for the good stuff ;)

It's been fun to get back into thrifting--i was pretty hardcore in jr high and high school (remember i even found my wedding dress for $3 at an estate sale?) and then i faded out for a while, but this month--it's becoming an obsession.

My new traveling goal is going to be, that I always hit up at least one local thrift shop when in another town or state. Nothing like a one-of-a-kind souvenir, right?
What's the best thing you've ever scored at a thrift store/estate sale/antique shop?

The winner is Justine S.! Congrats!
I love being married, but anyone who's been married for more than a few years likely knows that you can start to get stuck in a rut and date nights quickly turn to lots of dinner and a movies...
Just before we headed off to Costa Rica I was contacted by the fab people at Phoenix POGO. They told me about their awesome year passes and offered to let Marcus and I test them out. Basically you buy a pass and you get admission into all sorts of fun things around Arizona for one year. There are some restrictions on what days you can go or how many times you cans go certain places, but for the price, you only have to go to a few stops before the passes are more than paid for.

It was seriously JUST what Marcus and I needed. We've been really struggling with ideas on what to do and have ended up spending way too much of your free time on the couch watching Justified (anyone else watch it on Amazon, we're addicted!).

Now whenever we need to get out of the house we just open our POGO Pass app and pick an adventure. So far we've been to the rock gym twice and the Sea Life Aquarium once. Both were so much fun--next I think we might try the indoor trampoline park. I'm nervous for that one, but it will be fun to give it a try in our 25 and 26 year old bodies ;).
POGO Pass is giving one of my readers the lucky chance to win two passes to use here in Phoenix!

la paz nature reserve//costa rica

4.14.2014

Sorry in advance for the photo overload. This is the last of my Costa Rica posts.
This was our last day in the country and by far my favorite day of the trip--additionally one of my favorite days in life.

We woke up to monkeys on our porch and ended the day feeding toucans, hummingbirds, and holding butterflies...dreams do come true my friend. They come true in Costa Rica!

La Paz nature preserve was absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever seen in my entire life, and I've been to some pretty magnificent places, but up in those misty mountains, with pastures, and cows, and your head literally in the clouds, surrounded by jungle and some of God's most beautiful creatures. That's where you can feel His love with your eyes.

It was a perfect day.
The best day.
